Allegion’s commitment to environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles plays a vital role in our performance. Environmental stewardship is a key focus for Allegion as we strive to minimize our ecological footprint through energy-efficient operations, sustainable product design and responsible sourcing. Socially, we are dedicated to supporting the communities where we live and work, as well as fostering inclusion and belonging for all within our organization. Strong governance practices help ensure that we operate with transparency and integrity, building trust with stakeholders and positioning Allegion as a responsible global citizen.
In 2024, Allegion’s manufacturing facilities in Greenfield, Indiana, and in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, both went 100% carbon-free, bringing our total to 11 facilities and helping us get closer to reaching our goal of using 100% carbon-free electricity by 2030. Allegion won a 2024 Sustainability Initiative of the Year award from the Business Intelligence Group for a project that aims to help our manufacturing facilities divert more waste from landfills. Our corporate environmental, health and safety (EHS) team developed and implemented a sustainability kaizen that helps facilities collaborate to assess and address their overall environmental impact.
Additionally, Allegion was honored with two 2024 SEAL Business Sustainability Awards for environmental initiatives: a logistics reconfiguration that significantly reduced cargo shipments to our distribution center in Olathe, Kansas, and a major glass recycling initiative at our Technical Glass Products (TGP) manufacturing facility in Snoqualmie, Washington.
Our company is also the first door hardware manufacturer in the world to become Version 4.0 Cradle to Cradle Certified® Bronze for our line of AXA brand door fittings and pull handles, primarily sold in Europe, that meet a global standard used by future-focused designers, brands, retailers and manufacturers to make safe, circular and equitable materials and products.
At Allegion, culture is the cornerstone of our success and the foundation of our vision to create a safer and more accessible world. We take pride in fostering an environment where employees feel valued, engaged and empowered to contribute their best. Building a culture of engagement that’s open, trusting and fosters innovation, collaboration and inclusion helps us meet our commitments to customers, creating value through products and services we deliver to our end markets.
This commitment to a culture of engagement earned us a 2024 Gallup Exceptional Workplace Award, a prestigious honor recognizing Allegion as one of the most engaged workplaces in the world. The award underscores our dedication to building a thriving workplace focused on employee engagement, which was also evident with our 90% participation rate for our 2024 global employee engagement survey. Allegion was one of three manufacturing companies in 2024 to earn this achievement, the first manufacturers ever to win the award.
In 2024, we partnered with Gallup to conduct a comprehensive culture study aimed at identifying targeted interventions to address engagement gaps. One key initiative is the Accelerating Allegion Engagement Program, which provides support to managers in finding opportunities to build engagement. By equipping leaders with tools and resources to enhance team dynamics, we are fostering a culture of partnership, accountability and growth across the organization.
Inclusion is an integral part of Allegion’s culture, focused on fostering a psychologically safe environment where all employees feel respected and supported. Allegion is also focused on investing in its employees with leadership and growth opportunities. In 2024, we launched a Career Development Toolkit to help employees navigate their careers at Allegion, and we expanded our internal leadership and mentoring programs, graduating a record number of employees in both.
At Allegion, our core values are the foundation of everything we do, guiding our decisions, shaping our culture and defining how we interact with customers, employees and communities. These values are principles that drive our actions and inspire us to make a positive impact every day.
In manufacturing, Allegion’s performance is defined by operational excellence and a dedication to quality. We leverage advanced technologies, lean processes and a commitment to safety to produce reliable, high-performing products that meet the diverse needs of customers and end users. Our global footprint allows us to operate efficiently while maintaining the flexibility to adapt to changing market demands.
Allegion continued to grow its own manufacturing capabilities in 2024 with investments in new technology at our production facilities. For example, we invested in computer numerical control (CNC) machines and tooling equipment that improved equipment utilization and efficiency in our North American facilities. Internationally, we also invested in new CNC machines, supporting our businesses in Europe. Allegion’s premier SimonsVoss manufacturing facility in Osterfeld, Germany, has new machinery and automated assembly lines that improve productivity and quality for our next-gen products and solutions.
To support these recent investments and others, Allegion is committed to inspiring the next generation of manufacturers through education and our involvement with Manufacturing Month each October. Since 2015, Allegion has been celebrating annually with virtual and in-person events across our U.S. manufacturing facilities, opening our doors to students, teachers, media and community and government leaders to showcase the innovative jobs and career opportunities our company has to offer. In 2024, six of our facilities held successful Manufacturing Day events, and while each event looked a little bit different, the goals remain the same: To dispel myths that make it difficult to attract skilled workers, to encourage young people to consider manufacturing careers and to strengthen our relationship with our communities so they understand who we are as an employer.
Notably, Allegion’s Tracy Kemp, senior vice president and chief information and digital officer, was named to the Board of Directors for the U.S. National Association of Manufacturer’s (NAM) in 2024. NAM is a 129-year-old leading industry organization that represents and advocates for more than 14,000 manufacturing companies from all sectors and of all sizes. A NAM member for more than a decade, this seat is an opportunity for Allegion to trade experiences and best practices as technology, artificial intelligence (AI) and the internet of things (IoT) continue to shape and grow the manufacturing landscape.
